The following factors play a part:
- You and your spouse must be residents in Singapore.
- You and your spouse must be at least 25 years old, and at least 21 years older than the child that will be adopted. If you or your spouse is under 25 and/or less than 21 years older than the child, the adoption may still be allowed if you or your spouse is related to the child by blood, or there is other special circumstances involved
- The maximum age gap between the adopting parties and the child should not be more than 50 years.
- A man who is single, is not allowed to adopt a girl, unless there are special circumstances involved.
